The VTF operates across multiple communication channels. Each channel should have a clearly defined purpose.
Primary Channel
The principal channel through which the intended audience receives the transmission.
Secondary Channel
A supporting channel used when additional distribution or communication is required.
Archive Channel
A channel or system used to retain information for later reference.
Public Transmission Node
A channel designated for approved external communications.
Channel Selection
Personnel should select the communication channel based on:
Audience
Who needs to receive the information?
Purpose
Why is the information being transmitted?
Urgency
How quickly does the information need to reach the intended audience?
Retention
Does the information need to remain available after transmission?
Channel Principle
"The channel is part of the message." Information transmitted through an inappropriate channel may be misunderstood, overlooked or unnecessarily distributed.
